Dave,
I was surprised to see your Phasitron Page" when I ran a search out of idle curiosity. It was my first exposure to complex electronics when I became chief engineer of WTJU (the student-run station at Univ. of Va.), the transmitter for which was a Gates exciter modified to put out 10 watts. As I recall, there were at least 6 interacting adjustments in the modulator section, and I was lucky to get distortion below 5%. But it actually worked, and listeners would call to tell us what a good signal we had. Eventually we got a new transmitter, but I kept one of the tubes as a souvenir. The label must have been the original settings.
